3-Methylmethcathinon The molecule 3-MMC, also known as 3-methylmethcathinone, belongs to the class of substituted cathinones. Cathinones are a subgroup of amphetamines that have the amphetamine core structure of a phenyl ring linked to an amino group (NH2) via an ethyl chain and an additional methyl substitution at Rα.

The main difference between 3-MMC and other cathinones is the keto substitution at the beta-keto group of the amphetamine skeleton, making it β-ketoamphetamine. The cathinone ring of 3-MMC has two methyl substitutions: one at R3 of the phenyl ring and the other at the nitrogen group RN.
